This week is one to celebrate!

A young patient of mine, whose name I will keep confidential, got a kidney! This little guy spent his first years with kidney disease, attending many appointments, having many tests and procedures, and being hooked up to his dialysis machine daily. He has not only struggled medically, but was also born into a complex social situation. He was placed into foster care in early infancy, but luckily remains in this loving home and is now on the adoption track.

I was lucky enough to provide care management for this child and also testify to his medical needs in court. This led to termination of parental rights and allowed him to stay and thrive in his current pre-adoptive home.

I sit here and write this to shed light on two topics:

ORGAN DONATION and FOSTER CARE

If you have the ability to donate life, please do so! Do it for small children like this who are waiting for a chance at life. Check out more info here: https://www.organdonor.gov/

If you have the chance to open your home to a child, especially one with medical needs who is hard to place, please do so! They are also looking for a chance at life; a healthy life in a loving home. Every child should have this opportunity! Please visit your state's child protection agency's website for more information. Find yours here: https://www.childwelfare.gov/organizations/?CWIGFunctionsaction=rols:main.dspList&rolType=Custom&RS_ID=16
